I just finished my cycle only too late to realize that my sand is only about 2 inches! Is there any way to add new sand without starting a new cycle

you can add sand by using a long(clean) funnel or a funnel with a hose on the end of it to disperse where you want it without a big mess by pouring the sand into the funnel slowly. But 2 inches is plenty deep, unless your going for a deep sand bed.;)

Oops, forgot to mention it shouldn't have any effect on the cycle as theres nothing organic in the new sand yet,or if your using live sand you could have a minute mini cycle,as there should allready be benificial in the tank so i wouldn't think there would be a major cycle.

wow thanks if I already have live sand I could put regular sand on it and the reg sand will eventually become inhabited right? Does it matter if I use a different sand type than I alreadyhave? What sand should I use?

I would use what ever you have now. JMPO I didnt put as much as I would have liked when I set it up. I used a funnell and a piece of 1" PVC to add more. It still clouded up the water a little bit but not to bad. If you add sand I would just add a little bit at the time and spread it out a little. This way if you have something that borrows down in the sand it can still get out without being buried alive. Yes the sand you put in there will become live

I really don't know if it's wise or not to mix different sands,(maybe someone else will chime in on this)but if it were me,i would use the same as you allready have, and by adding (new)sand, yes it will become inhabited with bacteria making it live.I used all new sand to setup mine and then bummed a couple handfulls of livesand from a buddies tank to seed it.Since your tank allready cycled you won't need to seed it as you allready have live sand in the tank.
