My sump build is finished and holds water etc. So I am wondering if I should just throw in the salt mix and live sand and give it 2-3 days and start the system going with the big tank or should I wait longer?

I haven't used any live sand before so I am not sure if there is an issue with die off.

It should be fine , just let it settle out before you start pumping it into the display tank.

If your system is well-established, the LS should be no problem. As for the water, do be sure you aerate it 24 hrs before you crank up the pump.
