Purple Up is just ground up calcium. I wouldn't use it myself.
You will soon be tired of all the nuisance corraline algae even without the supplements and snake oils. Scraping corraline off of everthing becomes a real chore.

I leave it on the exterior of the powerheads for a few months until the buildup starts restricting the intake screens. I then soak them in straight distilled white vinegar for a hour and they come out looking brand new. I strain the chunks out of the vinegar, put it back in the gallon jug and re use it over and over until th pH is such that it doesn't work well anymore then dump it down the drain and get another $2.50 jug at the grocery. Lasts a long time that way. When you dilute the vinegar, as many do, it raises the pH so it takes longer to act and ends up getting dumped out each time.

You can put an urchin in to help keep nuisance coralline at bay.

What about build up on the back wall and live rock is that left alone?

Been pondering adding a pincushion urchin and the two mentioned starfish any suggestions?

I leave the back wall and rock alone. My Son painted the back of his tank blue and the corraline on the back looked like heck so he scraped his off and kept it clean. I painted mine black so the corraline is not as noticable on the back and on the Loc Line returns. I also let zoanthids and zenia grow on the back and internal overflow box, looks cool and is easy to frag just by pulling a chunk off.
