additional flow needed????

I have a question about water flow. I just set up a new (to me) 55 gallon. The pump for the overflow is rated at 750 gph. Do I need additional flow in the tank. There are 2 outlets for the overflow pump in the tank. I currently have 2 addittional 160 gph pumps at opposite ends of the tank to increase flow. the heads swivel back and forth. Do I need them? I am thinking that the additional flow may help to prevent some algea. Any input would be great.

What type of power heads are you using? Honestly in my 55 i had my overflow plus four K2s which are rated at 600 gph each.

 

I have two K4's in my 65. On on the right facing back left and one on the left facing front right to create a gyre, with a k1 to get a dead spot. Flow is equally as important as light in a reef tank. You really dont need them to move, as long as you can create a circular movement in the tank and then reverse it or change it every so often you will have what you need to help your corals.

 

In my 55. i have on K3 on opposite ends mid way down facing each other on an ocean pulse that switches every 5 minutes and sometimes I leave them both on to stir stuff up a bit and my return from the skimmer/filter/phos reactor. Im still think of adding a K1 or something similar to create flow across the bottom behind the rock work. It will be out of sight. pun intended. I think i will be changing my koralia position to how beaun has it also. I like that idea.
