Right now I have a 75G with a Eheim 2229 Wet/Dry. I was thinking of adding a HOB Ecosystem 60. Will this let me remove my Eheim and is the skimmer going to be good enough that it has built in ? Also this seems like it would allow me to place my heater in it and also a good place for macro. A sump is not an option as my stand is only 12" tall and i dont want a hob overflow. Any advice i would appreciate. ;D

the ecosystem you spec is rated for up to a 60 gallon tank, so i am not aware that eco aquarium is putting higher rated skimmers on this thing. most likely it would handle a 60 gal. So i doubt youll have enough skimming. your right it would be a place for your heater, providing it is deep enough, and good for macro algae that what its built for. its a skimmer and refugium combined but im not sure about the skimmer part. ive never used one of these before.

I have always been a fan of compartmentalization. if this is the only filter you have and something happens then you loose the skimmer and the refuge. if you design things to have back ups or a contingency plan your better off. in other words if you bought seperate components of the correct size or 10% larger than what its rated for, and if you had a problem with your skimmer (for instance), the fact that you still have your refuge moving water and filtering buys you considerable time to deal with your skimmer issue
