    Hey Everybody-

I thought I'd reach out to the experts to get their advice on the best use of an Aqueon Proflex 2 sump.

I'm torn between using the center section of the sump as a refugium or just keeping it "Berlin style" and utilize the space for more equipment.

If I run the center section as a refugium, I have plenty of space in the 3rd section for my AquaMedic skimmer and the return pump for the display tank.

Alternatively, I could use the center section to house my skimmer and have more room for future tech add-ons.

Either way, I can plumb 2 Phos-Ban reactors, 1 for GFO and the other for Bio-Plastics if necessary.

For what it's worth, the display tank is a Deep Blue 57 gallon rimless.

Let me know what everyone thinks! Thanks in advance!

I just got that sump in (model 2) and I have it hooked up to my tank but i havent run it yet. Overall I think it is a nice design and DFS is having awesome sales on it now. That is where I ordered mine from. I think it is nice that it gives you the flexibility of 3 different options. Make shure it will fit under your stand, and if the model 3 can fit, buy that one because it is longer and gives you more area to put things vs. the model 2 where it is taller and doesnt have as much area to put things. I fit my PM protein skimmer and return pump and it just fit snug. Im going to try to use my 2nd chamber as a refugium but i cant seem to find the right light to fit under there. here is the link for the sale on the sumps-> Aquarium Wet Dry Filters: Aqueon ProFlex Sump Filtration System at Drs. Foster and Smith
Also if you were to do the 2nd chamber as a refugium, you really wouldnt need to run phosban because that is really what the refugium is for...

Thanks for the advice! I actually have the model 2; it just fits into the stand.

I found the Exoterra brand reptile light fixture fits perfectly on top of the second chamber; in fact, the pegs on the fixture fit exactly into the grooves on the top lid of the refugium! I just got a cheap CF bulb to fit into it and I'm good to go!

I'm leaning toward using it as a refugium; still weighing the pros and cons....

I have the Proflex 4 on my 125 gallon. I like it. Its pretty quiet with a herbie setup. My only complaint it that the walls bow out when you fill it up. Kinda freaks me out, but havent had any problems for the 3 months its been up.

I got mine at a Petco but if you search on the net for Exoterra Compact Canopy, you should find a bunch from the nano size to XL fixtures. I'm sure they're not the cheapest fixture in the world compared to a simple socket at a home improvement store, but they look nice and fit on the sump perfectly! I think mine is the 25w version and it sells for between $14 and $20 online.
