Just use glass for the overflow, then skin it in black acrylic..that's how mine is.

Thats even a better idea than painting. As far as paint adhering to glass, clean the glass, scuff lightly with 600 wet sandpaper, and paint with oil based rustoleum. It'll stay, and when cured it's non toxic.

I do like the acrylic "skin" idea better though. Never thought of that. For that matter what about black stick on vinyl sheets like they use at sign shops. Cheap, simple, and effective.

I thought about skinning it with black acrylic, how would that work though, as of right now my plan is to paint the inside of the overflow so theoretically it should nvr get scratched and I was going to use black krylon fusion should I use satin or gloss?? I'm thinkin satin

Yeah, go with glass and paint it.

But you won't notice much difference in the sheen in the paint when looking through the glass. I just used matte black for my background, but t it doesn't really matter.

To be honest I'm not really worried about it scratching, I was suppressed that lowes and home depot only had rustoleum spray paint I wasn't sure if I am okay to use that once it dries or if I should just stick to Wally worlds krylon fusion :)

Go to Lowes, and get the rustoleum brush on oil based paint. I wouldn't use the fusion spray, or any other spray for that matter. It doesn't matter whether you get satin or gloss, they'll both look the same in the end. Get a good brush too. A cheapo brush can leave brush strokes and can look pretty bad.

Seano Hermano....I don't know of any spray paint made specifically for glass. That crystal clear coat in your link definitely isn't for glass.

C I thought about using a brush on paint but I'm going to paint the back of my tank as well and I'm just not that confident that I wouldn't have brush strokes on the back and that would piss me off

I've always used brush on paint on the backs, etc. The key is a good brush, and you won't get many brush strokes. Let the first coat dry and put on a second coat. Brush on the second coat in the opposite direction as the first coat. It'll look perfect.

Get a foam roller and just roll it on. 2-3 coats is what I used and it works perfect, no brush strokes.
