I am about to make a big order from vivid aquariums at the end of the month. Was thinking aout trying some sps. Never done sps. Thought I would be happy with softies and lps.. But gonna get rid of all my softies and go lps with a few sps.. Soo question is which sps should I start with if I can even support one in my tank.. I really dont want a digita or monti.. Vivid guys told me go with birdsnest.. So my tank is a 75 rr, has some red turf algae atm but am slowly beating it. Nutrients are low, I have 2 koralia 3's and a good amount of flow through my return fromm sump. Only have 4 t-5 bulbs running with 2 blue plus a 10k and a super actinic.. Should I even try lol? Also was told to buy some oyster eggs to feed the sps and lps if I wanted to.. Thanks for any info..

Do you have a test kit for Magnesium, Calcium, dKH, Phosphates.

These levels must be in the right range to support SPS. Phosphates have to be as close to 0 as possible. Rowaphos is awsome for this, Phosban works very well too. If you have red carpet, then my guess is that you have phospates. Get them under control before you throw money away

+1. If you are having an algae issue, your tank isnt as low nutrient as you think ;) I would wait until that is straightened out before ordering anything.
But yes, birdsnest is a good starter.

I agree with the above - make sure everything is really in order before taking the plunge. A phosban reactor isn't expensive and really helps. Vivid Aquariums is a great choice - you can trust their advice. One of my favorites! :)

Cool, thanks guys=) Yes I do have all tests kits minus mag. Been running gfo everyday=) Read this thread on rc about this turf algae nobody seems to know how to kill it cept turbo snails, also peeps say it will grow in a low nutrient tank and does not care about water quality. sooooo guess I will be patient and make sure everything is perfect=) Cant wait to kill this stuff been fighting it for 6 months already and finnaly seeing a difference=) Also oyster eggs good to feed everything? Appreciate the input..
