Most species of seahorses require a taller tank than a wider tank. Pick your species first, that will tell you which tank to buy.

Yes, you can do the filtration in that way.

For a Seahorse tank I would use a very good HOT skimmer like a remora and an aquaclear HOT filter and thats about it. A standard 29g makes a nice seahorse tank or you could go with one of the taller cube shaped tanks, but as Inwall stated you have to pick your species. Some seahorses get very large and others stay small.

By the way Inwall, thats a great link!

Do you still have lots of live rock / live sand and corals in the sea horse tank ?

    What exactly is HOT ?

    Thanks.

HOT= hang on tank vs inside tank or sump.

I would definitely do live deep sand bed in a seahorse tank. Live rock thats up to you.
LR will help with bio filtration but for seahorses I prefer branched dead coral or branching live rock and macro algae for them to hitch or hang on too.

As far as corals go, you dont want any stinging corals and you will need corals that can do well with low water flow.

Check out the web site that Inwall posted, it has alot of great info on setting up a Seahorse tank.
