Will powerheads increase temp in a 34 gallon red sea max temp at 28 c and getting worried. Should I remove extra powerhead I have installed to lower temp or is is better to have increased flow around liverock and lower temps??? PLEASE HELP

Yes anything with moving parts is going to create some sort of heat from the friction and it must go somewhere. I would add a small clip on fan set to blow across the water. Evaporative cooling is a powerful tool.

Circulation is very important in your tank so I certainly wouldn't trade it without trying other alternatives first. Although 82 degrees isn't all that bad in a reef tank. Over 84 or so and I would start to worry. But still, you do want to nip the temp flucuations in the bud now.

    Good luck.

Thanks for that.. Is it not a bit dangerous to have a fan in the hood ie electricity / water. Also hood is down on max ie closed system so im not sure a fan would work as I dont know where the heat would be dispersed too ???

Is the hood open in the back?

No You can open sections of it but it doesnt look very good.. You would have thought after the years of research that red sea claim to have put into this system they would have ironed out any temp probs....you shouldnt need to open sections of the hood. I did mention in another post that I have added a powerhead to the system to increase flow around the live rock . Could this be pushing temp up.....how serios is 81 - 83 f ????

81-83F is not an urgent matter IMO. If the temp does not go above that and if your livestock is doing ok I would leave things be.

On the other hand if the temp rises past 84F and if the hood is a must and you don't want to take pieces off to accomodate a fan your only alternative is a chiller ($$$$).

How many powerheads are you using and what are their brands?8) I switched from Seio powerheads which get kinda hot to Hydro Koralias which are low wattage and are more effecient in dispersing the flow throughout your tank. I did this during the summer and was effective in lowering and maintaining my temp by 2 degrees

I've went through the same thing with my nano cube. I ended up doing a sump and it dropped my temp by 4 degrees. I was just like you, the tank looks so nice with everything closed up, problem is the cooling fans in the hood stock, can't pull out enough heat. I did at first drill a small hole in the back of the hood and added to airstones, that did help with cooling but there was alot of evaportation.....
