Has anyone tried the new ViaAqua protein skimmer. The staff at one the LFS are hailing this as the best new skimmer you can get under $80 and they carry Seaclone and Prizm which are the comparable priced skimmer. It comes with an optional UV sterilizer, not bad for 80 bucks.

It looks cheap but it sounds like it would work out great... I am in the market for buying a skimmer so I will look into it more and if anyone has used it please write what you think! ;)

You can get a better one for that price.

The Seaclone is a much better value just based on the appearance of the skimmer construction. JMO

I have the via aqua and hate the*&%$*# thing!

big, clumsy and a micro bubble nightmare!

are there other skimmers that have a vortex in them like the sea clone?

that looks like an efficient system but in a higher end skimmer.

if your looking for a cheap skimmer for a tank 55g or less, look at the Pro Pack skimmer, its a clone of the CPR bak pak skimmer and sells for $45

Advice from someone who has made every aquarium mistake possible:
Stay away from Seaclone, Via Aqua, Prizm Pro. The standard Prizm skimmer has worked well for me for the past 5 years. In my 90 gal I'm using an AquaC EV 120 and I'm pretty happy with it. I am also running the old Prizm for redundancy.

why do they make useless skimmers

ive had a backpak 2 since the middle of dec. on a new 25 aga w/10 gal. diy sump. this was the worst investment ive ever made. niose, no skimate, micro bubbles, constant adjustments. i pulled the cpr site and fallowed instructions exactly on how to cure this illness brought into reefing. who ever designed it should have to live with it in thier home.
today i had all i could take, its out of my tank and in the floor and needs a new home so i can have mine back!!!LOL!!! HELP ME i need something quiet and user friendly that actually works.

    skimmer

Get a Remora skimmer. They are set and forget except for cleaning. They will make bubbles in your tank until it breaks in after 2-3 weeks. They will also make more noise till they break in but they are fairly quiet.
