    In the old days, skimmers were usually way over-rated and poor performing, unless you had a ton of cash to spend. I think most of the new skimmers on the market are appropriately rated. A lot depends on your water quality too. A light bio-load and good maintenance negates the need for an over-sized skimmer.

    I over sized my skimmer because I know I over feed. I over though to make sure everyone gets food corals, fish, and inverts. Thus, the 320g rated skimmer for a 240g tank, now stuff can be taken out quickly without m have to worry about spot feeding my picky eaters.
