And I thought I was good to go. Almost made it a week & I noticed drips coming from the wood in front. I looked underneath & the left corner is wet from top to bottom. I know it's best to just shut it down now & start draining. Just glad it happened before being loaded with fish & corals. Now I just got to debate if I want to reseal this 55 tall drilled or chalk it up as a loss & buy a new one. I wouldn't think it would be to difficult to just put all new silicone in the tank. Anyone that can throw me some advice would be much appreciated.

Sorry to hear about the leak, but like you said better now than later. You can reseal it by cutting out all of the silicone inside the tank and then putting new silicone back in place. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that the reseal won't leak.

I would say it is probably safer to get a new tank.

If you reseal you have to get enough silicone into each an every part. Not impossible by any means but difficult for a first timer. And 55's are cheap, I would buy a new one, or better yet a 75!

    +1 on the 75!
If you dont get a good coat of silicone between the glass its just a matter of time before your water finds a path.

Yea bigger is normally the way to go but I've had big tanks & the 55 tall is the tank that I really want to setup. Plus I already have the stand & hood for it. The friend who I bought it from is a mgr at a major lfs in Tampa. He said it didn't leak before & I believe him. He's a really good dude too. So I told him I was lookin to just buy a new 56 tall either drilled or I would like to go with the coast to coast overflow style. He's gonna hook me up with his discount at the store. So I should get a pretty wicked deal on a new one. Now I just gotta convince him to deliver it to me. Lol

I don't think I would want to reseal a tank. As hard as it can be to get silicon off of glass, I imagine it would be a very long and labor intensive process.

Great news, my buddy has the same 56g tall & drilled in his store & he is gonna deliver it tonight. Probably a good 50 mile trip one way for him. Now I gotta get home tonight & finish getting the other half of water & sand out before he gets there. I ran out of time the other night & only got half done. But I did notice it quit leaking already. Could that be because half the pressure has been taken off the glass?

That or if the leak was higher. You saw water coming out of the seam correct? Fill it up outside and see if it's truly a bad seam as you could have spilled water on the corner accidently
