So my yellow watchman goby somehow got into my overflow chamber. I'm finding it quite hard to get him out.... any ideas? This is NOT where i would like him to burrow ;)

Yeah, net or fishtrap probably. What type of overflow?

Take a cheap thin plastic water bottles (the 12 OZ ones with the flimsy caps) cut the top 2" off, invert it and superglue to the bottle body so the neck of the bottle is facing in like a fishtrap, add sand so it will sink, a cube of mysis inside and wait for him to swim in.
HINT* you can make the trap smaller by cutting the end without the neck down
    look upvDIY fishtrap for more

Put a stick or net handle near it to try to scare it up and catch it with a net

The corner has a lot of room to work in, but the standpipes will probably get in the way of a net. Could try two and trick him. If you can't get him with the nets, the fishtrap should work. A diy like panfish describes is should work fine. He'll get hungry eventually, just don't fall asleep waiting :)

 I don't know that I would try to scare the poor fish, what if it jumps the wrong way? I liked your other suggestion though...

Turn off the return pump and then pull the drain standpipe. He'll be easier to catch in your sump. (Just so you know, it's difficult to get standpipes back into the bulkhead but if you stand on the stepstool and use a flashlight, you'll get it back in within a minute or two.
