That's what we had to do. My hand was the only one that would fit in there, and I had to stand on a chair LOL. I covered where we took the pipe off with the net, since I couldn't catch the fish with it, then used my hand.

+1 on flush to sump, this is exactly what I do when the tricky little buggers get in the overflow.

Alternatively, I have had success with a siphon as well. Get a 5 gallon pale and a 3/4 inch flex tube, get a siphon going you will suck him right out into the bucket (turn off the return pump so you are only dealing with the corner water and its not refilling) - this is a good method if you do not want to tinker with the stand pipe and bulkhead fitting.

I also would recommend covering overflow with some monofilament netting so this doesnt happen again

I can't tell you how many times the YWG I had in my 120 found his way into the overflow and ultimately to the sock in the sump. I finally ended up donating him to my LFS.

ARgh!! Mr grumpy gills is making me the grumpy one! The fish trap has been unsuccessful, although i think he just gets out of it well, cause me bait keeps coming up missing, lol. I glued my standpipes in to prevent my sump from overflowing, so no pulling them... I think i will try to siphon him out. He is really small, so he may have even squeezed through the teeth in the overflow.

Glued them? so sump wouldn't overflow? I am lost there - but no matter....the siphon is a sure fire get um every time, happy hunting !

Oh I bet your sump couldn't handle the volumn in the overflow in totality -- takes us old foggies a little bit to get caught up !

Well, i didnt have any tubing to siphen him out with. I planned on picking some up saturday night, but when i got home i saw his tail somehow jammed into the overflow. Upon further inspection, it was him and he'd been stuck for awhile :( I have no idea how he got stuck the way he did, i assume trying to jump out of the overflow... I will try to replace him with larger ywg that cant fit through the overflow teeth...

Sorry to hear that he died. Good luck with your new one - these are great little fish as they certainly have a personality.....maybe the next one won't have suicidal tendencies !
