I am going to get my first SPS coral for christmas (mainly acropora, cap coral, millepora and all aquacultured) and i have no idea if i should get more flow or not. My parameters are in check for SPS and lighting but some people have told me to get a hydor pump and some people have told me not. Liveaquaria told me to not and just to lower my phosphate and if i see the coral not doing so good then go ahead but a few people told me to get one here on 3reef. It's a 70 gallon reef with soon to be SPS. 1200 gph flow. Yes, it has been set up for years and has tons of colonys of LPS use to the water flow right now!

I would get the flow up to 2100gph at least and closer to 3000gph preferentially if not more.

What wave maker could i get under $75? Is the more the better? The only thing i am worried about is my tank is stocked with LPS and how will they accept the higher flow rate?

A couple of Koralia 750 would do you well. The LPS should be fine as long as they do not get blasted with flow. Place the pumps on opposite sides of the tank length ways aimed perpendicular to each other over the rocks close to the water line.

    I agree 100%.
I would aim for a flow rate of around 35-40 times your tank size. So, 2500gph-2800gph would be good and 2 Koralia Evo 750s would put you in that range.

fwiw, in my 75 I had a closed loop at 1200 gph and then a Mag 9.5 as my sump return.
