AI PowerPuck

Im a little bit suprised to not see anyone post about this yet. Anyway, AI announced the powerpuck for the Vega. it looks like basically you will decide what LEDs you want your Vega to have.

Pretty sweet if you ask me, I just wish they would offer this to exsisting SOl owners, you could do quite a bit by switching out the cool white and that blue for maybe neutral white and UV...

I just saw this yesterday. It definitely brings a whole new level of customization to the LED field. I like that it is interactive as well.

 

If I remember correctly from a conversation I had with someone at AI, they are going to apply any new modular upgrades that go into the Vega to the SOL as well which would explain the new wireless communications, optics and rails. I would be shocked if they didn't offer new pucks for the SOLs with how many are in use already it would pay for the logistics to so it much quicker than it will with the Vega.

 

I sent them an email or support request today about it after posting this and didnt really get an answer about the upgrades to the sol, they of course mentioned the fact that i can trade up for the Vega. But that doesnt interest me right now considering my light is only a year old, and i just bought a used one from a friend getting out of the hobby. So, what would make me extremely happy....if they offered the same color upgrades for the SOL, or even some of the colors if not all.

 

New SOL pucks would be amazing... I know I would be happy!

 

I don't know but it is hard for me to get excited about a product that was anounced back in September of 2011 but for some reason is not on the market yet. Here it is, nine months later and we are expected to be excited about a new upgrade to a product that still is not on the market?

AI made a huge splash in the industry with the Phoenix (later renamed Vega) at lst years MACNA. It was an obvious attempt to steal the thunder from the Radion. In reality this product shoild have been out for at least 6 months by now. Here we are 3 months out from MACNA 2012 and we still don't have a product on the market.

 

I think they realized it was going to take more than white and blue to make us happy.

 

True but the still would have sold a ton of them in the meantime (people upgrading from Sols) while developing a multi-color option. With the rapid development of LED tech, they need to move at a much more rapid pace!

 

I fully agree. They are chasing the tail end now instead of innovating. Being a step behind is dangerous in the aquarium industry.

 

+1 the only thing I can see is possible the drivers in the sol, maybe you would have to mod the drivers as well to handle more then 3 colors?
either that or a control update, hard to say..
I know I would love to throw some violets on mine. thats probably it, maybe one or 2 reds as well for night critter hunting
