Ok guys, bare with me on this (got this idea from Covey's post on the hair algae vacuum)....I know i'm not the only one out there that has battled the dreaded aiptasia anenome. There are quite a few solutions from natural to chemical but i was thinking about this. Just as the title explains...does anyone think there is a possible way to create a tool to suck out aiptasia off rocks in the tank? I know it sounds a little bizarre but I would be able to get rid of aiptasia and do a water change at the same time lol But the point would be to be able to use something that would create enough of a vacuum to suck the aiptasia right off the rock hopefully and not give it time to release spawn & in the event of that your sucking up the water around it anyways. Now with that being said I'm not sure if this is even plausible for the fact that one there has to be a tool ot motor to create the suction and a small motor couldnt get wet else it would be ruined and also I'm not sure that the aiptasia would release from the rock. If anyone has any ideas or thoughts on how to make this please inform me cause i'm curious:-/

i dont think you can suck out the aiptasia like that. you're better off taking a syringe and blasting the sucker with whatever. i used lime juice. get it while its open. quickly inject into the mouth. may take a few tries. also added a peppermint shrimp to take care of any small ones trying to grow.

okay i didnt read the whole thing.
i think your toughest challenge is not the suction strength but how you can create the suction with uneven and porous rock. i just dont see this possible.

yea i see what you mean with getting good suction on porous rocks but in my 90 gallon i have aiptasia that are always out and feeding and it leads me to believe that i would be able to somewhat catch them off guard (if you can call it that) and I might be able to get 'em out real quick cause I think all of the aiptasia are relatively easy to get to. I've used aiptasia-x which seems to work but was thinking about getting some peppermint shrimp here soon...any recommendations on how many for a 90gallon? lol This was just a side thought in the mean time

hard to say how many. the problem with peppermint is that they may not even touch the stuff. a i highly doubt they can handle ones larger. and also the shrimp has to be hungry. if it is feeding on whatever you feed the tank with then it will just wait for feeding time and not hunt for aiptasia. i gues the trick is to put small drips off food enough for the fish to get first. any coral that gets target fed will have food stolen by the peppermint.

i would still get just one. and manually blast the suckers with the old syringe and lime juice method. i had a bunch when i first started. now never even seen one in the past 1.5 years.

i think it was lime juice. either way both have a high acidity. nope no heat. wouldnt hurt though. i like the heat idea.

the use of heat wouldnt hurt the lime or lemon juice would it? and i need a sharper needle/syringe but do u inject it on the disc or somewhere in the base/neck of aiptasia?

heat wont change the juice. the idea is to get the aiptasia to eat the juice. so as close as you can get to the mouth. but from experience as soon as one tentacle touches the syringe it closes up and hides in the rock. so i quickly stabbed the mouth while injecting. do not inject if he has hid in the rock. you'll have to wait till the next time. this could be fun. was for me as i cussed the hell out of the aiptasia.

Got any ideas where I could get a syringe to inject the aiptasia that would be similar to something a insulin patient would use? & no i dont need it for drug use but I need somethin that is thin and sharp enough to pierce the aiptasia
