I'm not convinced that this is aiptasia because of the red around its mouth. It's actually kinda pretty. But if it is aiptasia I'm gonna stick it with some boiling water. Thanks.

I would say it is aiptasia since your zoa is closed.

That zoa is part of a larger colony that came on that rock as a "mystery coral" from saltwaterfish.com. the whole colony is pretty much closed, and the rest of the colony is over an inch away... I guess this could be an indicator that the aiptasia popped up in the middle of a colony. I've seen so many aiptasia ID's that look really different from one another.

Aiptasia has many morphs. Poke it if it disappears into the rock then it definitely is aiptasia.

It withdraws into a pink and white striped soft tube, the way that a LP like dendro or sun polyp, or duncan withdraws, but its a very soft tube. Pics are uploading to photobucket right now, post them in just a second.

I'm not ready to call it an aiptasia yet. Reminds me of a majano, but the tentacles don't match up....

If you can get and keep a Copperband Butterfly they will eat aiptasia. I just bought one yesterday as a precaution. I hope he survives my purple tang.
