air conditioner

A six degree swing daily? Seems to me that would stress out fishes after a while. I'd at least throw a fan or two over the surface until you get your AC situation figured out.

 

well no stress signs in any of the fish due to temp swing if anything it better mimics the natural reefs around the world with it only time i see any signs of stress is if it gets above 85 then some corals start to close up

and i actualy wasn't the one thinking of using ac to cool my tank

 

not to mention the hot air is going to be put back into your house, very noisy, I just think an all around bad idea.

 

Look back at my first tank post, I lived in Puerto Rico then and the house was a brick oven
if you know this I had a home made hood with 2 computer ps fans extracting the air from the water surface area in to the living room. winter time 74ºf to 89ºf and from March till
November 95ºf to 103ºf average water never got higher than 85ºf or so with fluorescent
lighting though... I had them on from 4:30 pm till about 2:00 am Atlantic time

 

For what ever its worth and I am not trying to hold an A/C design seminar But you can toss all the cool air up under the hood you want But you will also need to pull the heated air from under the hood at the same time . Its about the boiling point of the refrigerant . A/C do not cool air.. They remove the heat molecules.. So just blowing conditioned air into a area that is not being conditions viz a return air over the Evaporator coil or heat exchanger. Just a heads up before you buy all that Flex at 60.00 a 25 ft box and duct tape

 

thanks for all the info. i guess i will just have to see how the new tank and house act. i am setting up my 240 in my new house in about a few weeks. I CAN NOT WAIT. so i will put some fans on the top to suck out the hot air and if that is not enough then i will get a portable ac unit that has the hose attachments and plumb one into the hood and let the other blow in the room. i may just be too worried. the new tank will be going in my new basement so it may be okay just do not want to worry about my tank when i am gone. what do you guys use to control your temps besides fans. fans just do not give you an steady temp and allows for allot of play like these people that say their tanks fluctuate 6-8 degrees. thanks for all the help. i will be taking pics as the project gets started and post them for you to see. thanks again Cody
