Try it now. They both should be public.

I'm not sure if this is your issue, but I've had an issue in the past where if the water level in the internal overflow box is low, then the cascading tank rushing into it, creates a lot of air bubbles that are incorporated into the water flowing down into the sump. The end result is gurgling. My fix was as simple as using a UTube with the longer end in the box on the tank side (although some UTubes have two equal-length legs). If you have a perfect U shape (Not more like a J), then try a more powerful pump. This will fill the internal overflow box faster, and not allow a cascade. You can also play with the height of the in-tank overflow box.

Finally, as one stated above, never--ever restrict the water flowing INTO the sump. The only place for restrictions is off a pump going back into the DT.

    Good luck. :)

The pump is rated at 700gph. I'm sure that's not the problem. It's pumping quite well actually. There's no air in the U-Tube at all. Check the video. This wil give a more clear understanding of what's going on. I'm thinking it's either an issue with the outgoing pvc or the overflow box. I must say, these boxes don't seem to be the greatest work of art.

700 gph at 0 head. I bet after you figuire head loss from return line diameter, 90* elbows, valves and height you're not even getting 500gph. Do you know the brand of the pump?
I watched the videos but I can't hear what you are describing. I run Eshopps pf300's on two tanks and all I can hear is the water going into the sump. But if I have too much or too little flow they make the gurgling sound. I agree with ReefSparky. You're pump isn't putting enough water back into the tank and is whats causing your issues from the low flow.

    Sure, it's a Pondmaster 700gph. Here's a link:

PondMaster 700 GPH Submersible pond pump, Model 7 Mag-Drive Utility pump

There's plenty of water in the tank. It's a result of the tube running out of water. If this was the case, it would be draining more than pushing back up to the aquarium, and that isn't the case. The gurgling noise is coming from the overflow box as if the current tube isn't pouring enough water into the overflow box.

I think I know what you are talking about. I just changed a pump and I am going through the same thing. Noisy, and the overflow will not keep up for some reason. I put a similar size pump in that came out. Anyway, I enlarged my plumbing to the sump yesterday and that only helped somewhat. I am going to mess with mine a little more today and if something works I will let you know.

Thanks. If you check out the video, you can see that it drastically quites down when I add a second hose to the overflow. Even with that, the pump has no problems keeping up.

If the overflow isn't keeping up, any particular reason why you would enlarge the PVC to the sump?
