AJ heres the link to the lights i bought. Coralife 9" Mini Aqualight Fixture

to mount the lights im gonna take a dremel tool to the lid and cut a small opening and then secure the fixture on. its a perfect size. should look okay when im done.

i can take some pics if you want....

Yeah that'd be cool to see. I just recently made a custom fuge light out of 3 small strip flourescents (2 @ 14" and 1 @ 6"). Used some spare aluminum I had to make a reflector thats about the same size as the scraped area on the back of my fuge. GLued the the strips to the inside of the reflector and attached the whole thing to the wall behind the tank.

I'm hoping this will be enough light... Certainly seems bright enough.

Are you going to utilize the Actinic or replace it with another 10000k?

So after fishing my new firefish out of the back chambers another couple of times, I decided I needed to put up some sort of barrier. Also re-worked my fuge light.

I cut a piece of acrylic to size, drilled some wholes for cords, and painted it black. It's attached with superglue gel. It's the black strip along the left of the pic. It also serves to keep light from the DT getting to the fuge and the fuge light from getting into the DT.

I have also crafted a fuge light using 3 small stip lights from Home Depot and an aluminum reflector. It basically fits the shape of the back of the fuge perfectly and is attached to the wall...

Cool... That looks pretty clean. Now we just need to wait for the fuge to do its job...

    Update: 1/28

So I keep waffling on my fuge light... I accidentally splashed some water on one of the flourescents and it started smoking. So I wasn't too cool with that. I decided to build another one from pics I saw on here or nano-reef. Basically, it's a compact flourescent in an outlet box. I like this one because I can attach a piece of acrylic to the front to keep it water resistant.

I have step-by-step pics of this if anyone is interested.

Now even this I am not that happy with as I feel that the box the light is in restricts the area which the light can hit within the fuge. So it is still a work in progress.

    UPDATE: 1/28/2009 Part 2

I also was starting to feel that I had too much sand in the tank so I decided to remove some. As I did, I also re-did some of my aquascaping. Much happier with it now as it is a little bit more open and my firefish is out and about much more now.

Pic of duncan after being fed some mysis shrimp. This guy's smaller second head has grown a good amount in a couple of weeks and it looks like a couple more heads are starting.

Also, I ordered a Tunze 9002 skimmer (yeah!) and a Koralia nano (double yeah!) and I am going to start building my own version of these (Home Page) to fit next to the skimmer.
