Algae ID needed similar to GHA but not

    i have had this patch of algae for a while, hasnt been too much of a problem, hasnt spread. It's really thick and bushy, none of the inverts eat it. Let me know if you need more pics ill try to get better ones.

    Looks like turf algae to me

    Pull it out since they won't eat it. They may go after what is left. Turkey baste the area to get the detritus out of there. Hard to tell exactly from the pics, but it looks like some type of GHA.

    yup looks just like that but much smaller i've been kind of ignoring it since it hasnt spread but i was taking pics of the tank tonight so i figured mights as well get an ID

    I don't know what eats it regularly and you wont be pulling it out. It has a very fine, strong root system and pulling it is futile cuz it grows back. My emeralds finally ate the little patch I had from a frag but I starve those guys anyhow so they eat pretty much everything they come across.

    hmm ok maybe ill get an emerald or two next time im at the lfs, i used to have one but he died on me, probably starved him as well

    I'm sure theres something that will eat it or other ways to get it out. I was just like you and never worried cuz it didn't spread. I only id'd it because I wanted to know what it was. Then one night I noticed both my emeralds munching away on it and a few days later it was gone. I think John M. has info about controling it on his site.
