can someone help me identify this green algae please?

It seems to be mainly on just this rock in the tank. Nothing seems to be eating much of it. Should I pull this rock out and nuke it, or is it an ok algae to have?

Also, please let me know if you can suggest a cuc that will eat it.

    Thanks!!

    Will

Possibly green hair algae. If it is, a sea hare will take care of it.

Emerald crabs eat just about any algae IME. They have eaten Bryopsis in my tank. I would pull the rock out and remove the algae using tweezers for starters.

    It's definitely not GHA.

It does look very similar to Cladophoropsis, especially John's pic in the ID thread. As far as I can tell, the algae is limited to this rock only in my tank. I'm thinking of removing the rock and nuking, but I'm also giving John @ Reef Cleaners a chance to take the whole rock since he says in his algae thread that he's never seen it in person....

    Will update with his response.

John was not interested in the rock... he has seen it since he posted his Algae ID thread, and said he needs to update it...

I'm considering taking the rock out and nuking it, or just getting rid of it... it's not a huge rock to begin with, and I'd rather this stuff not spread.

    It is turf algae.

Best way to get rid of it, because it will spread, is to take pieces of epoxy and flatten them and put them over the algae for a week or so and repeat. I like the way the stuff looks but it can spread fast. If you can isolate and remove the pieces and kill it, that is the best option.

I don't mind the way it looks, either... but I am concerned about it growing into my corals...

To me, "turf algae" looks finer, and this algae's filaments seem to be thicker/ waxier, almost like cheato.
