red slime(cynobacteria) and hair algae, phosphates and dissolved nutrients are culprits

If it turns out to be Bryopsis, you have reason to be concerned.

The green is like very fine blades of grass. The red on top is like a wet dog hair covering the green.

    Does that make sense ?

    Cheers

Derbesia then (which is a good thing), once the clean up crew eats it, the detritus won't get caught in it and rot, then the cyanobacteria will go away too.

dissolved nutrients, could come from over feeding, decaying matter, or the stuff u feed your corals, atleast if u over feed them. skimmer usually takes care of the dissolved nutrients but it can only do so much, u can get a chemical resin for dissolved nutrients forgot what it was called but i seen it in the shop the other day, i think its from tropic marine
