Hey - i have a small patch of this. It looks to me to be normal turf like algae but my turbos seem uninterested and my stomatellas have taken a huge decline (trigger is the culprit)

It does look like turf algae. Not sure though, the pics are a touch blurry.

    Cheers

Why are my astreas not touching it? Is there a specific snail that eats it?

From the photo, it looks like regular Derbesia which is quite low in secondary metabolites. Mexican turbos will but I don't know how much they cost in the UK.

Thanks Curt - Snails in general are quite expensive at my LFS. Normal Astreas are 2.75 sterling each. But as my tank is only 31G im sure i could get away with one or two Mexican turbos! Thanks for the info!!

Woah! Roger - Don't scare me like that! Phew!

No the stuff i have looks more like a green scouring pad that you get for cleaning. I've googled images of Derbesia - and it seems to look more like that then bryopsis.

i hope you don' have this beast This stuff has survived from everything there is to toss at it from U/V totally worthless and then to Ozone and on to removal by hand used super skimmers and water quality so pure I was afraid to it would kill the fish and animals the redox at 470 and I was leary to get to 500's but I sent it there . But this algaes has been in the wife's system's since 2000 I guess when she brought some L/Rock of a old long gone 55 but the algae reamains LOL There was just a speck on a scroll coral she had I Q-tip'ed it with bleach and rubbing before I put it in this and the previous smaller tank it survived just fine in both moves and bleaching's . A few months ago I decided to grow in under control in the fuge it was dead ): Now I have a fuge full of it and 24/7 250w 5500K Iwakie M/H and it seems to be robbing the main tank's coloney of needed food its getting sparse ? I tried all the liquid algae control products nothing . But that did make the fuge to die Off LOL

This stuff if you look rally close has actual little feathers like on the verticial stems like little feathers almost ..
