Looks like GHA. What are your Mag, Alk, and Calcium at? This can play a big part in keeping algae under control.

how old is the tank? I only ask b/c it looks half new and half old. THinking you might have just got some live rock that has a lot of organics to cycle through maybe...is that the case?

    did you mean tang?
mine nibbles at it but really doesn't make a dent. I got some fuzzy chitons from reef cleaners and they love the stuff. they are the only ones that have made a dent in this stuff snails just graze over it.the chitons devour it of the rock.
also a good way to remove as much as you can is take a pair of tweezers and yank out clumps , just make sure you get it out of the tank before releasing the tweezers then repeat.
also raising mag hasn't worked with this stuff or alk.

also here is a link where JohnMaloney id'd this stuff for me.

yes I did mean tang...lol but when it gets long enough it does look just like hair. but it doesnt seem like the pictures of GHA either. I can say it is starting to choke out the tube worm colonie around it.

yeah it has stages where it looks like small tubes of bubble algae then it looks like moss. if you don't get it under control it will chock you rocks and coral look at my tank thread you can see it.(that's after I cleaned the rocks).
