I've recently set up a reef on my biocube and its that time in For an algae bloom. I have a bunch of small bits of hair algae on my rock and sand and it coats my walls by the end of the day.

I have the following in my tank,
    Two perculas
    Six line wrasse
    Tiger brittle star
    Tiger tail cucumber
    Six hermits
    Six cerith snail
    Couple mushrooms
    Toadstool
    Zoanthid patch
    Star polyps
    A sick hairy mushroom

Any ideas will be helpful :)

How new? Hair algae can last for a few weeks in a new tank. Not much you can do about it except manual removal. Just keep your nutrients down in the meantime. Are you running a skimmer?

you may want to add in a couple more snail perhaps a turbo and another type (astrea?)when you say sick hairy mushroom, is that like really sick or sick as in really cool? If it's truly sick, could it be putting out something to foul the water? Are you running anything that absorbs phosphates? I know I always seem to ask that question :)

The tank is a couple months old, my water is fine and I do a weekly three gallon water change. The sick mushroom is I'm guessing sick, half of him is white and he seems to be shrinking. He still glows under moonlights but he's been this way for a few weeks. And yes I run a protein skimmer. :)

Your tank is still pretty new and algae issues are very common in new tanks and will often go away with time. But in more established tanks, algae problems are usually caused by aquarium water with excess nutrients like phosphate, nitrates etc. You can try and manually remove the algae in the short term. But in the long term you may have to examine how you care for your tank. There are some commercial dry foods also contain excess nutrients and other undesirable things like nitrates, phosphates etc. There are some commercial dry foods also contain excess nutrients and other undesirable things like nitrates, phosphates etc so I strain/rinse my fresh/frozen foods before feeding my tank. You may want to consider feeding your fish less often. Also, changing your photo period, adding more flow, using RO/DI water with a good quality salt like Tropic Marin may help too.
