I thought having a refugium w/ macroalgae would deter or stop hair algae from sprouting.
Nitrates are zero, limited lighting: 5hrs in DT & 8 hrs in sump, lights are fairly new, carbon & filters have been changed when I first saw the hair algae.
Maybe I need more herbivorous cleanup clews.

Pics? You might be able to remove it by hand if it is dense... the nitrate/phosphate might test 0 due to the fact that the hair algae is feeding off of it.

Instead of letting it grow in your display, why don't you grow it on an algae scrubber in your sump? The scrubber will out compete your macroalgae. There are several very good threads on turf algae scrubbers. It will greatly benefit your tank.

Sump should be 6-8 hours of rest, you have it just about opposite. Run a small amount of GFO if you aren't, and give it a month with more light in the sump. Also, make sure the light is as close as possible to the macro. I keep my flood 1" above the water.
