Algae in my new tank

    Hi There,

    I know my tank is young so...here is my question. I have some nasty looking algae in my tank (see picture). I can just let it die out itself can i not?:confused:

    Also i cant remember what the heck those things are that are tiny clear balls with what looks to be tentacles coming out of it.. they are all over my glass.... i think they are called Hydroids???

    i wouldn't add anything else until you get that type of algae gone, my dads tank is covered in that crap because he rushed stocking.

    it is caused by stocking the tank? i just put 3 blue green chromis and some hermits in there. yikes!

    well you can always expect some algae in a new tank, but if you stock it too fast it will kick the growth into overdrive. you can try a phosban reactor or cut back on feeding

    i just was commenting this is a particulary devasting type

    oh great..... :( well then how do i get rid of it? turn off the lights?

    if you don't have corals you could do that or cut back on the photoperiod

    Does that stuff have a slimy or, hairy texture?

    looks like green hair algae with air bubbles on it
