I noticed that on my live rock when some of the polyps from my Zoa colony closed up there is some type of hair algae. I now use RODI and TDS is 0. Could the Zoas be preventing the algae from dying? I feed a small amount of frozen every day that I rinse first. PO4 reads .01 and NO3 is 0. I just changed the MH bulbs

they are definitely giving it a relatively safe refuge, protecting them from anything that might eat the algae due to its inconvenient to get to location

also there will be some benefit provided by the Zoas wastes

I have had similar experience whereby hair algae in protected locations are often the most troublesome to deal with

I used tweezers to gently pick as much as I could between the polyps at night when they where closed and that coupled with Rhowphos used at the time, meant it never got out of hand but I dont recall it ever being completely being erradicted either

I achieved a level of tolerance with it is the best way I can explain it
