I just started a 75 G with a sump/fuge about 2 weeks ago. there is 25 lbs of live rock and 30 lbs of dry rock plus a little live sand on a dead sand base. I have chaeto in the fuge. Im getting a lot of green algae on the live rock and glass of the tank. Ammonia nitrates and nitrites are still all at 0. Obviously there is at least a mini cycle going on. Should i worry about the algae now or wait till the tank stabilizes before i get a clean up crew and take action?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
This sounds like a normal part of the cycle.

I would make sure you are using RO/DI water only and maybe check for phosphates.

Perhaps a small CUC initially if your parameters stay stable.

I just checked my params.. ammonia 0 nitrates 0 nitrites 0 ph 8.2. All my water including top off is made with RO/DI. Don't have a phosphate test kit... guess its time to get that. I was thinking about perhaps adding a few turbo snails to start. Anything else I should think of? Thanks for the help!!!

I added 5 Turbos...it was 6 but one was DOA :( ...they started to work immediately. kinda fun to watch too. anyway...hope they help to keep things under control for the next few weeks while things stabilize. I ll be checking for phosphates too. I am running carbon which should help with that right?

You want to run gfo in a seperate reactor for phosphate's.

Definitely normal. Your system will go through a few algae stages before finally stabilizing and staying relatively clean. I've found they waiting them out and trying to fight the nutrients rather than the algae works the best. Just remember the rule "nothing good happens fast in a reef tank."

Patience is not a virtue that i seem to have been born with but i realize i need to find some quick!! LOL. Its been my plan to wait it out for the most part, just need the occasional reinforcement and morale boost being a new guy. Thanks!

Not very many of us were born with it. I think more would get involved in the hobby if the results were faster. Once people realize whats in store they quickly make the decision to stay or move on. I hope you can wait it out the reward is quite nice once you get through this. I do planted tanks and the wait is just as brutal so I learned patience through doing that. Good luck and I hope you get through quickly!:)
