My water in my tank has been a yellowish green and almost impossible to see through. Is this some type of algae bloom in the water? It gets worse when i run my lights, especially the daylight...not so much the actinics. Ive been doing 15% water changes the last 3 days and it helps somewhat, and havent hardly ran the lights at all in the last 5 days. What else can i do? This stuff is relentless

Phyto blooms can be frustrating. If your LFS rents out UV sterilizers, that would clear it up in a couple of days. You can also leave the lights off for several days and then do a large waterchange.

Any fix is going to require figuring out where your phosphates are coming from. I.e. overfeeding, tapwater as opposed to RO/DI water, inadequate filtration. You might want to run GFO phosphate remover in your sump or in a fluidized bed reactor.

Carbon will clear it up some but still need to find the source of the phosphates like inwall said or it will just keep coming back. Are you using tap water?

    How old are your bulbs?

When I first got my tank I had the same problem, and couldn't figure out what was causing it. When I checked the bulbs that came with the tank I discovered they were 4 years old.

As soon as we changed all the bulbs the green disappeared in 2 days.

probably dirty water that carbon could clean up. Get a bag of chemi-pure.
