I have a 9 gallon mini reef by fennex aquariums with PCF,rain/ drip style filter with activated charc/ fine fiber/ bio balls as filter media. Tank has LR and LS. Bio load is one sexy shrimp, a mandarin goby and a shrimp goby. Corrals are GSP, Zoanthids, Frogspawn, Blasto Wellso, sun polyps and a candycane. I do one gallon w/c every week with RO/DI. Feeding is alternating between mysis/ prawn eggs/ high protein pellets. Here are some pics to help form an oppinion of my algae problem. Thank you again for any help!

People are going to start asking for your tanks parameters so you might want to get those figured out. I had the same problem until I started rinsing my frozen food. Turns out my problem stemmed from the binder they used to freeze their food.

Algae problems are usually caused by aquarium water with excess nutrients like phosphate, nitrates etc. You can try and siphon out what you can to remove the algae in the short term. In the long term you may have to examine how you care for your tank. There are some commercial dry foods also contain excess nutrients and other undesirable things like nitrates, phosphates etc so I strain/rinse my fresh/frozen foods before feeding my tank. You may want to consider feeding your fish less often. Also, changing your photo period, light bulbs more flow, using RO/DI water and a high quality salt with little if any NO3, phosphates etc like Tropic Marin may help too. Adding a phosphate remover and increasing flow in your tank may help too.

A black out may help in the short term but as said by others, finding the root cause of the nutrient problem. You may want to look at your filtration system also. Filter pads etc can cause issues also. Change things one at a time, keep testing and you will find the source. Good luck!!

That looks like bryopsis to me.

In which case, the easiest way to rid yourself of it is to raise your Mg to high levels using Kent Tech-m.

While the info the prior posters have provided is true, bryopsis can be rather prolific in clean, nutrient poor waters. However, fueling it a little makes it spread that much worse.

You can't "just kill" this stuff off; you have to eradicate it. Otherwise, it'll just come right back.

Your cure lies in peroxide, see the other posts on here about it. No nutrient changes needed.

100% agree! That is bryopsis and using Kent Tech M has been the tried and true method. Not peroxide! Now people are talking about peroxide being the cure all to killing algae, UGH!!!

If you bother to read the thread I made here, and at Rc, it is.

By all means continue your path, if you want to see proof, look where I told you. Tech m cannot compare outcomes whatsoever. People are usually resistant to new methods, you ought to read the skepticism when I started gallon reefs a decade ago it was even more negative lol

    I don't mess with fads

    Peroxide is your ticket.
