How old is the tank? What are your nitrate and phosphate levels?

    Hi there
I could definitely help you with this. I had this problem back when I first started years ago. What you want to do is following

Step 1: The best thing you would want before doing anything is have saltwater ready to go in the tank when the following steps are done. Have about 20 percent of new saltwater ready to go.

Step 2: BE SURE TO TURN YOUR PUMP OFF.(never do this with your pump on because your continually spread algae. Now I am not sure if you have any algae growing on your rocks because the pic is hard to see but if you do, grab and air hose and siphon any hair algae growing on your rock. My personal experience try to do this without removing a lot of water from the tank.

Step 3: Once your done siphoning your rocks then grab a NEW sponge (Please do not use any old sponge, not a good idea because of livestock) and clean your glass and the black plastic behind the biocube as well as you can. You may clean the sponge with the old water you have just siphon out if needed.

Step 4: Once your done you should be able to see that your tank is a lot cleaner and now perform the water change. What I did to my 60 gallon hex was I removed the exact 20 percent of water and then poured in the new saltwater. Remember that I did not siphon a lot of water with my air hose. I just siphon out about 1 gallon and 1/2. Then I went to my backyard and got a bit of fresh water from my garden hose and SLOWLY POUR IT IN. Reason why I poured it in slowly is so my life stock would not get affected by the changed water temperature including corals. You could buy the Publix brand water if you really want to as well. I just got it from my back yard hose because there was no chlorine in that water.

Step 5: Once you filled in with water turn on your pumps and switch out the foam filter you may have in your tank. My canister had a blue foam filter so I just switched that out with a new one and left the old carbon because of the bacteria cycle and livestock. I believe the biocube has the filter that your just by and replace. if you are going to do that once you put the new filter in, try to put the older pad somewhere in order for your livestock to remain unharmed, unless if you got bio balls then you should just switch out.

Step 6: Adjust your lights to 8 hours a day and your tank should be better in a week. So just sit back and enjoy.

If you need any more further instructions or forgot to mention something please reply back and I will get back ASAP. Thanks and I hope this works.

Yea I've been using tap but with water treater. You think that is it?? Here is my live rock [IMG]

It doesn't seem like its bad I don't have any hair algae or anything. Today I went a got a big piece of live rock...added it I figured it couldn't hurt to have more bio filter especially since once I get my tank in a more stable condition I'll be getting corals.

Short answer, yes, God knows whats in the water. Look for some local fish stores that sell ro water buy the gallon, i wouldnt trust those water stations at wal mart or publix, there not designed to take out all dissolved solids. There just made to make water taste better...

or if you plan on being in this hobby for more than a year, do yourself a favor and pick up an RODI unit, Itll save you $$ and headache over the life of the unit. And you will always have fresh water in case an un timely water change event, or cleaning.
