I have had my 55 gallon tank setup for a year now, and I have always had a problem with green algae on the glass and hair algae. I have PhosGuard in my canister filter now because I know my phosphates are high and now use RO water,(used to use tap water) also Doing small water changes every week. My question is when the hair algae dies will it just go away or will I have to take it out manually.

Start taking it out now with. Toothbrush. You will need to take it out as when it dies off it releases phos back into your tank. Phos removers are no easy fix, it will take months of water changes and replacing of Phos media for it to go

I've been using ro from the start and my Phos is at 1.0

I was in the same situation, i removed it all manually. a couple months after using ro/di water it started to die off slowly. I found it best to remove it befor it got too bad. i also did water changes every 5 to 7 days till i got it under control.
