I had a reef tank setup, and IT ended up getting filled with hair algae. I used ro/di water, had a skimmer and all. I moved and tore the tank down and dried the rock out, Its been dried for quiet a while now. I am just now gettin back into the saltwater tank, and I am wondering, Will my rock still have the hair algae in the rock? If so, What can I do to prevent this from happening? Keep in mind, im startin fresh, if that matters.

You can bleach it to be sure. Search "nuke rock" on here. You'll find what u need.

    +1

I wouldn't take any chances. I had it in 24g cube and it was pretty terrible. Its so hard to get rid of and its very disheartening.

I will do that, I contemplated just trashign the rock, and buying live rock.. But If I can do something to get rid of it before I set up the tank, ill do that instead.

Yea, I'd nuke it then get a bacteria "culture" to add to the tank like Biozyme or Dr. Tim's One and Only. That way you don't need to worry about bad hitch hikers.

Thank you. I will do that. I just dont want to spend all my time after the tank gets up fighting the algae...

Save yourself a big ole headache and just get you some BRS dry Pukani :) Algae free, pest free makes for a very enjoyable beginning :) It's what I did. All's it took for me was one bad experience with hair algae. I'll never start another tank using someone's live rock again.
