i need help! my aquarium was running great for months now, i had no trace of any algae! but just a few weeks ago my LR started turning this brown-green color, and my sand was being covered by a brown algae! it has gone to an extreme! my sand is completely covered in brown! and my rocks are a dark brown and green color now! within hours of cleaning the glass with my mag-float it starts to stain again!
i use ro/di, and all my params are perfect! no trace of anything! please tell me what i can do! i already lowered my light period! and im going to change teh place where i buy the water jugs! any other thing i should do?

Do you have a clean-up crew? what does it consist of?
Have you added any new rocks, corals, or fish lately?
Post some pics so we can determine the type of algae and maybe then determine its roots...

    hi El sillo
have you recenly upgraded your lighting? as this often can lead to algae blooms
parameters often are fine even when algae gets out of hand, it uses the nutrients up as quickly as they are being produced

if it where my tank - I would start by running some Phosban or Rhowphos in it to help reduce nutrients and beat the algae menace

i have probably 30 hermit crabs, and 30 snails, i added new corals probably 3 weeks ago, i got some candy canes, torch, hammer, and ricordea. i got a blue hippo tang a week ago, and thats it! i believe that maybe the problem could be that they havent done maintenance to there machine.

Yep ,been there and done that myself - did you phase them in slowly?
if not then that explains why the algae has bloomed

the good news is its manageable so dont stress

based on this information I would monitor for a couple of weeks as you sometimes get blooms and then they recede

if it starts to worsen - look at the chemical export of nutrients solution

no i didnt i just set them up, and plugged them in! do you believe this is my problem, its strange for me because all my params ar perfect there is no reason for the algae to bloom because there are no nutrients for them!
