argh forgot the name (bright green algae) , but no, from what iv read they tend to die off on their own. i had one that vanished after a while, it may take some time though. if i remember correctly on one forum someone added massive amount of cal. without testing before hand and had an explosion of those things, worst bit is that no fish will eat them. yellow tangs can feed on algae but wont touch that as its calcium based? anyway don't take my only word for it im sure more experienced tankers have better tips for you.

    Welcome to 3 reef

not sure what the little green specks are but the rest of it looks like byropsis.
Raising mag levels seems to work for people, ive never had it so i will let them comment on that part.

the little green specks could be, that stuff is reef safe.
as for the byropsis in the photo, it needs to get taken care of.

    Thanks for the replies peeps.

dboshibby. I was hoping that wasn't what it was. I have zero reading on phosphates, silicates, and the other big three. I dumped in a couple of hermits and they seem to eat it. As I read nothing seems to eat it I thought it might be GHA

I have just checked my mag levels and they are at 1560, they have always been high for some reason? I have two clowns, LN Butterfly fish and a coral shrimp. No corals as yet as the tank is only about two months old. So assuming this is byropsis (and you guys have far more experience then me) what level do you think I should raise my mag levels to? And any thing else I should do to get rid of it.

    Many thanks to all

Swisswiss is right. It's commonly known as Caterpillar Weed; Completely harmless and shows that you have decent Calcium levels in your tank as it needs Calcium to grow.

Reeron, thanks. The odd thing is my calcium levels are at 320 which I thought would be to low, but I don't have any corals yet, so maybe this level is fine for FOWLR which is what I have at the moment.
