Keep in mind that if it's a major outbreak of algae, then you won't necessarily read any traces of phosphates due to fact that they are being masked by the very algae you see. It's hard to tell from the pic you gave, but if it's just in that small spot on the photo, then I wouldn't worry too much right now. You could pull the rock out if it's not causing too much damage, and scrape it off in a separate bucket filled with salt water.

Thanks 55, I wouldn't say it was a major outbreak just a thin scattering. I have added some photos below, one of an overall view and some of the heavier areas. I should also note, that I had some crappy fluorescents until a couple of weeks ago (the sort that come with tropical aquariums) when I changed them out for a AquaLife T5's?

Ahhhh, an increase in light will bring out the algae that couldn't grow before. More light more growth. You may just have to keep up with good water quality checks on this one until it dissipates.

Although I haven't dealt with Bryopsis, I've seen some severe photos of it (ie, "GHA gonna make me quit thread) and from what I see on yours it doesn't look like that. Do you have any mexican Turbos in there? They are great for clearing out green hair.

No unfortunately, I have recently moved to Brunei and with one LFS that sells marine, it's very much a case of what you can get. I did however get some hermits from the beach, and they spend all day munching on the stuff. I also got some local Trochus snails, but they seem to have buried themselves in the substrate. The other thing made me wonder if it was GHA rather then Bryopsis was that I see the clowns pecking at it.

So from what you see, do you think this is GHA or Bryopsis? Should I remove the rocks and scrub them, or should I just do frequent water changes and wait it out?

    Thanks again
