I seem to have really green, hairy algae growing on my rock, is this normal shortly after a cycle?

I have a 11 day old 200 gallon tank. I stocked it with fully cured live rock and never had an anything spike. I had a diatom breakout at 7 days, and introduced the CUC.

The diatoms have cleared up for the most part, and now green algae seems to be starting up. Is that part of the cycle process? Will it go away on its own after a time, or do I need to do something else prevent it?

    Parameters:
    Ammonia: 0
    Nitrates: 0
    Nitrites: 0
    Ph: 8.2
    Temp: 78
    Salinity: 1.025

You probably need a bigger cuc for that size tank, also check your phosphates that was my issue from initially starting with tap water.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Yes it is part of the cycle process. With a bigger clean up crew, limited addtion of nutrients to the tank via feeding or water source and it will clear up within a couple of weeks.

I wouldn't be adding a clean up crew, cuc or anything. Taking from your post -- This is an 11 day old tank that has yet to cycle, just let it be for a couple (few really) more weeks.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll have to check my phosphates. I'm using RO/DI water.

No fish in it, so haven't been feeding anything in it yet.

Turn the lights out for the remaining time of the cycle, it's worthless unless you like to see empty tanks :)

If you do invest in a CUC soon, i'd add some Emerald Crabs, And definitely Turbo snails. Both start chomping the moment they're put in the tank. :) Try phosphate remover, too. And not really for a clean up crew....well sort of... I had luck with Nassarius Snails. Fast little guys, but keep sand clean and mixed. :D Good luck.
