This algae has been very persistent at coming back know matter what I do.The stuff grows like moss all over the rocks and substrate it doesn't get long like hair algae and it is real hard to pull off.I've tried searching for pics of something similar but haven't been able to find anything that matches.I am running phosban in my canister all three trays, my refuge has cheato in it.
I'll try to get some pics up later.

I am using ro/di water for my topoffs.

How old are your lights? Where do you get your water from, your own RO/DI filter or RO from the store?

I just got the lights a month ago. I went from pc's to t5's.The algea seems to be allot greener under the t5's lol.
Unfortunately I get my water from a cullagan machine.I plan on getting a ro/di unit in a couple of weeks though.
it started to go away for a while but know it is coming back faster then ever.

My guess is that the microalgae growth is a result of your new lights and/or excess nutrients in your water. Also, high levels of dissolved carbon dioxide will pose a problem for you as well by spurring an outbreak of nuisance algae!
Try doing a couple of water changes to dillute the amount of nutrients in your tank, and reduce the duration that your lights remain on temporarilly to see if that helps!!
Coil denitrators, sulfur reactors, various corals, and the vodka method can help as well!

You should really consider getting an RO/DI filter before it gets any worse. I put it off too long trying to convince myself it was other things. I tested the water from the store many times, 0 nitrates but always .5 phosphate, which is all that GHA needs to keep going.

I'm expecting the arrival of my RO/DI unit today and I can't wait to thaw it out and use it tonight to make some good water finally!!!! Check out the link in my signature for where to get a great deal on one.

Mine does not eat any of my GHA. It's a 50/50 chance with the lawnmower blenny and mine isn't one of the 50 that I wanted.

Thanks everyone for the replies, yeah this has been going on for a long time its to the point were I don't even like looking at the tank.when I scrub the rocks with a hard bristle toothbrush(new) it doesn't come off very easily. I guess the last factor is my water.
as soon as my lights come on I will get a closer pic to see if someone can id it.just curious to know what kind of algae I'm dealing with.
those are some pretty good prices bc219.which one did you go with?

    I am getting the OCEAN REEF + 1 FIVE STAGE 75 GPD RO/DI ($199) and here's why...

I wanted a 5 stage, then I looked at the $135 one and the $160 and figured for the $25 difference I would go for the better one.

I knew I needed a TDS meter, a flush valve and a pressure gauge which are add ons for both, which would bring the cost up.

Scrolled down and noticed all these things are included with the $199 model!

I called and talked to one of the owners and he was great and so very helpful!

He just emailed me and said to thaw the unit before I use it today. It's not exactly a heatwave in Minnesota and Indiana today. I can't wait to get it!

I had all algae problems gone, when I got my T-5 I got a new run of hair algae. It is almost gone now but was a pain in the neck. I think it's your new lights and is just something you have to go through.

I suddenly have a red slime problem, it covers the sandbed like a carpet only when the lights are on and when off at night it seems to go away. I've cut my feedings down and am running carbon and Phosban through my canister filter also run a skimmer and lots of flow with 2-powerheads. My lights are about 5-6 months old MH 150w 15,000k, Could it be the lights all of the sudden?
