How many hours a day are your lights on?
Week one you should completely clean off all algae.
With a new scrubber when you get black / brown "oil slick" growing clean it off.
It's good you scratched it up well.
There are many things that need to be just right.. Like flow for instance.
How much flow do you have over the screen and what lights are you using?
Also really high nutrient tanks will have the oil slick longer.
    A picture would really help.

Yeah.. just checkin some people run them 24/7 for a new scrubber and you can't do that. I run mine 12 on 12 off but 18/6 is good.
You should have enough flow for it to fall off in a solid wall of water.

Here's a guide for flow depending on how long the screen is:
    Screen Width-----Gallons Per Hour (GPH)

    2" 70
    3" 105
    4" 140
    5" 175
    6" 210
    7" 245
    8" 280
    9" 315
    10" 350
    11" 385
    12" 420
    13" 455
    14" 490
    15" 525
    16" 560
    17" 595
    18" 630
    19" 665
    20" 700
