Just came back from vaca today and saw these on my liverock... they are perfectly round with spikes on them... Any one have any idea what these are??? There are dozen of them.

So far, tank only houses and arrow crab and a scorpian leaf fish.

You sure there's no alien sonic hedgehog hiding in there? :)

Wow, never seen anything like that, but here's a bump for your question. Maybe someone from the evening crowd can help.

I'm stepping outside my area of expertise, such as it is, but...maybe they are foraminiferans?

    Foraminiferans

Maybe they are just developing the "stickers."

    Cheers,

I think that's a good guess, but they are very symmetrical and dont appear to have the cytoplasm strands. Going to give this a bump since I'm seeing them spread to other rocks. Also, they're gradually turning grayish red. Maybe this weekend (if they're still left) I'll collect a sample and take it to a local expert... or maybe they'll hatch and then we'll know. Stay tuned. Thanks for the replies.

I'm going to say formaferins too. Although I've never seen them start out white.
