I've always had very slight algae problems. I've never had phosphates.... never had high nitrates... The problems are not that bad but I've never been able to figure it out. Then I saw this thread.

    http://www.3reef.com/forums/water-chemistry/chemiclean-red-slime-remover-40029.html

In there jawfish writes "i have used the red slime remover and it worked at first and then it grew back. then i checked my water chem. and the KH and calcium were to high. i brought those down and i have never had an algae bloom sence."

I've never heard that Alk and Calc could cause algae blooms. Is this true?

I know if you let them fall off to NSW levels you will have issues .. Carbonates neutralize acids and these and Ca make water harder and Alga does not like hard and alkaline water.. It prefers warmer acidic waters

Tangster... fall off as in being low? From what jawfish was saying it was that it would be high.

I found the opposite to hold true in that I let the Carbonate and Cal. levels to drop off I have algae problems thats why I run mine as his as I do..
