alkalinity and calcium

    I tested everything and this is what i got mg 1460, ca 415, and alk 13.7. What should I do since the mg is high? A water change or should I wait for it to drop to 1350 then adjust the alk and ca? Thanks for the help

    Leave it alone, all the numbers are within good reason. Leave it alone till next week and do the same test and post again so you can determine consumption rate.

    Ok im confused one week later this is what I got mg 1560, ca 425, alk 11.8.I did not dose anything since my last test a week ago. I thought everything should have dropped? Please help! Thanks

    OK, lets start right here now. What corals do you have in your tank? In order for the params to go down, there has to be something in there to use the mg, calcium and alk. I am guessing that your water change upped your params though.

    I have a super green zoes with about 20 heads, a branching hammer with about 10 heads its big , close to the size of a soft ball, two frog spawns, umbrella leather, green star polyp, button polyps, two kenya trees, orange cap frag, size of a half dollar, purple pipe organ baseball size,two small green birds nest frags, and a pink acan with about twenty heads.I think thats all

    Since I stopped dosing last week the corals look great so.

    You don't have a high demand for cal/alk. I'd give it another week and see where we are. I don't trust cal and mag tests too much anyway, so those results could be in the margin of error.

    I lowered my alk from. About 11 to about 8 and my corals are doing better. I think some tanks reward a lower alkalinity. Let yours drift down a bit more and see where you are.

    So, your levels went up without a water change and no dosing?
