My Alkalinty is at 16 dKH. Is this too high or should I be worried? My calcium levels are at 400 and mag. levels are also a little high at 1400-1600 ppm. My pH is around 8.23. What should I do and is this bad that its that high?

I am surprised your calcium is at 400. What salt are you using and how often do you do water changes? Any other supplements are you adding?

No, it's fine, and it will go down on it's own in time.

Also how old is your alk test kit. Normally CA is tied to Alk to that much difference is odd.

I did a 20% water change just 4 days ago and the only additive I use at the moment is liquid reef by brightwell aquatics once at night every night. But I use a API test kit that is probably 1 year old could this be the problem?

Reef Builder just boosts the alkalinity. I would bet that is the issue. Use it less often or cut the dose down.

As for the test kit the reason I mentioned it is that I had a kit go bad and it wouldnt read any higher than 7.5 or 8. No matter what I did that was the reading. I even started using Reef Builder to raise it but no luck. Then I read a post here about a bad kit and picked up another. My alkalinity was actually up past 12 with the new kit.
