    Hello,

I tested the kh of my 50 gallon reef and it is between 11 and 12 (drops). I was reading that it should be between 8 and 12. With that being said, if I am on the high end after a 50% water change 48 hours ago; how can I bring it down to around 8 safely?

I am using RO water that has a kh between 0 and 1.
My ph tested in tank at 7.8 and calcium is high at 560.

Do I risk doing another 50% water change so soon? How can I get these numbers under better control?

    Thanks friends,

    LoveMyReef

Don't worry about it at that level, the calcium is more of a problem. If you are dosing stop dosing until you get in the range you want. Calcium should be between 380 and 420.

What kind of salt are you using? I would just let the Clacium and Alkalinity drop on there own. No need to shock the system.8)

I am using Oceanic salt that my local reef shop swears by.

I have not dosed calcium for about 2 weeks now.

I will let it settle for a couple weeks and see if the parameters come down.

    Thanks

I used oceanic for almost a year, calcium was alway in the 500 range. Not likely the calcium will drop with a water change.

What salt would be recommended with lower calcium rate?

2nd question is why are you doing 50% water changes for?

Had the same exact problem with oceanic.

Coralife, Instant Ocean, Tropic Marin are the one I use myself.

I had a phosphate issue so I was told to do a 50% to help bring it down. It worked.
