Alkalinity math

    Can someone help me out with my daily dose of alk required to keep it stable. It's a biocube 29 with lots of Sps. Lately I have been trying to increase it slowly from 9dkh to like 11 or 12. It has taken a while but I am back at 11. I use brightwell aquatics nano code A & B. I have been dozing about 5ml every day and usually there is little to no change in the alk when I test the next evening. I just wanna know how much to dose to maintain. So the bottle says to divide the daily decrease by 1.67 ( if using dkh) then multiply by estimated system volume. How do I know how much alk is used? Do you guys need more info?

    Brightwells reef code A and B are Calcium A and Alkalinity/ Carbonate B

    part B Alkalinity
    Each 1 mil added to 1 US gallon will increase dkh by 2.2 ish

    what you need to do is
    whilst its at 11, today, do not dose
    measure again tomorrow and see where it is

    if you find its still 11 - leave for another day
    if you find its 10 - then you know, your Alk demand/ utilisation is 1 DKH in 24 hours

    with that information you can then calculate exactly how much part B you need each day to compensate

    thus in the above scenario
    you would need to add .45 mils for every gallon or 13 mils of part B per day

    because if 1 mil in 1 gallon increased by 2.22 - you need just less than 1/2 mil per gallon to give you the 1 degree you need to replace

    or 13 mils divided by 29 gallons = 0.45 x 2.22 = 0.999 dkh for your tank ( just under 1 dkh)

    if you find it takes 2 days to drop from 11 to 10, then you would add 6.5 mils per day as its exactly half of the drop in example 1


    if the above does not help with the maths for you
    let us know what drop you experienced in 24 or 48 hours
    and we can do the calculations for you

    bear in mind utilization will increase as corals grow etc
    so weekly testing and then increasing the amount you add based on similar mathematics principles will be required

    Alright. I will test it again tomorrow. I did the math and got like 14 ml per day which just sounds crazy. So I'm thinking it takes about two days to drop 1 dkh. We will see. The bottle though, says that 1ml per gallon increases dkh by 1.67. I have definitely noticed that I'm having to dose more since the coral has started to take off. I read somewhere else that the more dkh the faster the growth, is this true?

    maybe they have changed the strength of solution?
    or maybe you and I are talking about 2 different products?

    I have reef code A and B - so maybe nano code is not exactly the same strength?

    so double check what the instructions say
    but the math above is correct in principle

    Hey

    I think they have different strengths. It does say 1.67. But yeah i think the math is the same. Maybe I should just pick up some reef code because I'm going through the nano code quickly.

    Today it appears to be between 10 and 11. The test was yellow green at ten and then yellow at 11 (API).
