    Hello everyone
I have a 90G FOWLR tank and been happy having it over the last year. Things have been going well and wanted to improve and adventure more little at a time. My desire is to get some basic hardy SPS like Zoa and Xenia to spice up the tank. In that view i tlked to LFS and with their advise purchased B-ionic 2X to maintain /provide Ca and alkalinity in the tank for corals. I have pH around 8.3 salinity 1.024. Nitates and other basic parameters are at good levels. I have no Ca test or alkalinity test done in the past year. Regular water changes (and may be luck) kept every thing going smooth. I bought Red Sea alkalinity test kit and i noticed the alkalinity in my tank was 5.2meq/l even without dosing the b-ionic. I am wondering if i still have to dose b-ionic? Isnt the required leves is around 4.8meq/l! I use RO/DI water and mix Instant Ocean salt mix. Would appreciate your thoughts. I follow these forums a lot and have learnt a lot and still learning...!

Well if you are only interested in a few softies. They are not SPS by the way. You should not have to dose anything. Just continue to do your water changes to replenish trace elements and you should be good to go.;D
Good quality test kits for the major elements like Alk,Cal,and Mag should always be in every good reefers drawer but soft corals are much more tollerant of less then ideal conditions and regular water changes should be all they need to thrive.Good luck.

No need to dose at 5.2meq/l. Natural seawater is 2.5meq/l.
